December
I am sure the fact we have now entered the final month of the year has not been able to escape your attention, if only due to small children running around punching and pinching eachother. Well, more than normal anyway.
In my random style, here are some facts about December (and a few about Christmas, just to get you in the spirit :)):
- The name December came from the Latin “Decem” (meaning “ten”) as December used to be the 10th month of the year.
- On 21st/22nd December (in the Northern Hemisphere) the Winter solstice occurs, marking the start of Winter.
- This year, the Winter solstice will occur on 21st December, at half past 6 in the evening in the UK.
- In superstition, Christmas pudding should be made from 13 ingredients, to represent Jesus and his deciples.
- 1st December is World AIDS Day.
- The first heart transplant was performed on 3rd December, 1967.
- “Silent Night” was furst sung on 24th December, Christmas Eve, in 1818.
7’s a lucky number (but I have my doubts :() so I’ll leave it there.
I have also just uploaded another 9 fractals to my gallery here. Please feel free to check them out.
Until I next type something, I have some websites for you to check out:
