Bingo!
I am quite suprised at the number of people who are attempting to complete my puzzle! A large number of my school friends are attempting to get through the levels, but many are getting stuck in various places. I didn’t expect the popularity of it, so I was giving clues out to start with, but now I am being asked the same questions over and over, so I have a new policy of NO CLUES!
Anyway, back to the title of this message and today’s random list. For some strange reason I have bingo on my mind, so I have a list of random bingo facts.
- Bingo was invented in the 1500s by the Italians as a form of lottery.
- At bridal showers in the USA bingo is becoming increasingly popular, with cards showing popular gifts, crossed off if they are unwrapped.
- Some early pinball machines were often based around the game of bingo, and were played for money, rather than just for amusement.
- In New York in the 1930s the game became very popular, and numbers were covered with beans. When someone covered all the numbers they yelled Beano! Someone mis-pronounced this as Bingo! and the name has stuck.
- Cow Pat Bingo is played in some areas in the States. A grid is marked on a field, a cow let in, and bets are placed on which square the cow will first lay down a pat. Obscure!
- Canadian scientists have discovered a condition called ‘bingo hall lungs’, which is basically coughing and wheezing caused by the smoke filled bingo halls.
- Rhymes were often given to numbers, but these seem to be getting removed as it makes the game old fashioned.
- Some people have written songs about bingo games.
Random, but that’s what I’m like!
Until the next time I post a message, goodbye!
PS: There may be another editor on my blog soon, depending on whether they want to do it, so look out for them
