Blogvertising

Just now I thought I had coined a new word as I was reading through my emails, but alas, after a quick Google (and yes, that is now a verb) I realise that 67,500 people have had the same idea, and are just as irate as me. So, to make that 67,501 I will also complain about the new phenomenon that is blogvertising. People sending comments to blogs that look vaguely logical at a quick glance, but actually are full of adverts and subliminal messages, or I’m reading too deep. They started off really blatant, simply a list of links to online casinos, but now they are taking a more annoying approach of writing a message in the best plain English that stupid advertising people can manage. For example, one I received read something like this:

hi im some weird french person whose 16 and im reading ur blog. its good. i like cheap laptops and u have lots of info on PUT YOUR PRODUCT HERE like me. i look forward to telling my teacher about ur site and my findings of cheap laptop computer.

There are of course links added to the products and stuff like that. What really annoys me is that this site received just over 850 unique hits last month (although very few on Tuesdays…) which is not really a huge amount, considering a general rule is that advertising is useless with anything less than 1000 hits per month. Why do these people think it is worth their while posting comments on my site with so few visitors, and most of them are probably just my school friends! However, I did just learn I am more popular than Digg for the search term “0118 999 881 999 119 725 3″, which is an upside I suppose.
