Crosswords
After the comment on my last post, I was rather suprised. I had just finished watching Dave Gorman’s Googlewhack Adventure when this comment mentioning crosswords appeared. Now, unless you have watched the DVD or read the book you will not know the relevance of this, so I encourage you to get the DVD/Book.
Anyway, to the main business: Happy Easter!
To compliment this day, I have compiled some random facts concerning Easter.
- The custom of giving eggs at Easter time has been traced back to Egyptians, Persians, Gauls, Greeks and Romans, to whom the egg was a symbol of life.
- In medieval times a festival of egg-throwing was held in church, during which the priest would throw a hard-boiled egg to one of the choir boys. It was then tossed from one choir boy to the next and whoever held the egg when the clock struck 12 was the winner and retained the egg.
- Easter Sunday is the first Sunday after the first full moon after the 21st March.
- The Americans spend roughly $2 billion on Easter eggs each year!
- 5% of people say you should eat the chocolate bunnies from the feet first.
- 76% said you should start with the ears.
I’ve run out of time, but I’ll add some more random knowledge soon.
Edit: Fact 3 there is not strictly true as the moon used is a hypothetical one, and not the one in the sky, but they are pretty close. Also, there was an agreement created hundreds of years ago to fix the date of Easter to the week beginning April 9th. Those talks are still continuing as the main religious groups could not agree when to celebrate it.
